To compact or not compact - that is the question.

    Hi All

Just wondering what the concensus is on usinging "Compact HTML" (in Design | Options).

I understand that using this feature strips out all the comments and other bits of unnecessary Actinic code.

I assume that this is a good idea as it reduces the size of the page a tad (thus improving the download time, in theory). It also means less "waffle" for a search engine to trawl through before reaching the useful keyword rich code etc.

But are there any drawbacks to compacting the HTML in this way?

    Thoughts anyone?

    Regards

Hi - I have found that if you are modifying actinic templates then it definitely helps to have the comments in. When you view the source of a displayed page you can see a lot easier where a problem may be, and the template that u need to modify.

Once a site goes live, I usually compact a site to improve load times.

compacting improves loading time, but makes it difficult to read code if you are trying to find an error.

i normally compact for uploading, and uncompact if i need the code more readable!

depends on how large the site is

Having an uncompacted site lets you use the Dreamweaver Extension.

Like Jo I would compact when uploading
