Left Category Box Appearance Help ??

I've searched the forums but can't come up with anything so am hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I'm using the smart theme and want to change the appearance of the category and sub-category links on the left headed catalog, I'd like to change them to something similar to the browse section on currys.co.uk

Creating the graphics isn't a problem it's just how I go about altering the code, any help appreciated.

If you go and get the advanced user guide you will find instructions for all the other navigation styles that come as standard to actinic. If these don't suit go to drillpine.biz and see if there are any plug ins that are a better solution.
