Updating from v7 to v8

is it possible to copy over whole "branches" of products within the product tree from version 7 to version 8

i.e. i have both versions open and i want the version 7 product info copied into version 8, is this possible with out manually copy and pasting each individual text entry

You can export the catalog from V7, delete the bits you don't want and then import it again into V8.

See if i import part of the old catalogue, will it be appended to the new catalogue or will it over write it??

Depends on whether you choose update (append) or replace (overwrite) when you start the import.
