Too many Supplimental Results in SE results?

Hi can i pick your brains pls

Our web-site has been running now for over a year and we have had a continual problem of product part numbers not being indexed by Google. Their indexing covers the top two levels of our catalogue that have no real content and miss the lower levels that have the content, part numbers and descriptions. A site: enquiry of our site shows over 240 out of 270 pages are being listed as Supplimental Results.
Some advice please on whether we should

1. Use the robots.txt file to stop the spiders from visiting our top level pages which are mainly to help customers make decisions or

2. Try and rename our pages in a more SE friendly manner

We already are and have been using a sitemap file since just about day 1.

Are you referring here to the sitemap generated by Actinic or are you submitting an XML file to Google?

No. That will just block the one's you have indexed already and block the SE spiders from the rest of your site.

I wouldn't bother. Once you have pages up there it's ua;;y best to keep them as theya re (unless they're a complete mess such as copy_of_copy_of etc).

Your main problem is that you don't have many links to your site leading a PR of 3 on your home page and none on most of your product pages. Second to that is that there's not much relevant content on the pages as you have lots of pdf's and pop-up pages.

So, in your case I would:

1. Get more relevant links. Include some deep links into your site if you can.

2. Put more content on your web pages.

These are SE basics and still very important.

Jo - we are using a xml.gz file that has been submitted to google.

Mike - i'll try and flesh out our pages a bit and we are always after links
