Customvar in receipt page

Hi, can anyone tell me if it is possible to pass a customvar created in a section page to the receipt (act_order04) page? And if so, how?

I am using javascript to pick up existing netquotevars in the receipt page but would like to do the same for customvars.

This would require quite a bit of Perl patching to achieve, I'm afraid.
