Order Quantities

Many of our products are Obsolete and Discontinued and therefore, we only have 1's and 2's in stock.

How can we set up our Ordering Process so as to ensure that customers can only order what is actually in stock? Quite often, customers may order 2 items, when it is shown that we only have 1 item in stock, but their order is still taken for 2 items.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Isn't this a well-known v7 bug for which there is a script fix available? I'm not sure what to search for - try 'stock control' in the v7 forum.

There's two bits to Actinic stock control:

1. Are there any in stock (a simple yes/no decision on whether to show the 'add to cart' button) based on stock settings.

2. What is the max orderable quantity?

If you only want the customer to be allowed to buy 1 or 2 then you need to set the max orderable quantity to 1 or 2. Otherwise it isn't controlled.

Some of Jan's Mole-End software can automate this for you if it's important.

Stupid question, (i'm on Digital Download so never have a stock out).

Anyway, I noticed "Suspend Orders" if below <value> in the Stock Monitoring tab of the Products and part of View > Stock Levels.
Does or does this not stop you from clicking Add to Cart?

2. What is the max orderable quantity?

This is cross all products though...... isn't it?

Hi Simon

Yes if the "Suspend orders if below" value is reached, on the next upload, for that particluar product the "AddtoCart" button will be replaced by a "Out of Stock" message online . The point to note here is this will only start working if the stock falls Below that specified number so if its 1 it will kick in only when the stock goes to zero or a negative value.

The Max orderable quantiy can be set for each product via the "Details" tab, its only the "Order value limitation" that is a global setting(Business Settings | Ordering)

I am aware of both the Max Order and Suspend Order rules, but to be fair, neither would be of real help. Some items that we have in stock, we do carry quantities of and so we would not want to impose a maximum order. We do supply corporate accounts, and for those that don't order direct, then we wold lose business it we set any sort of Maximum Order rule.

We also currently use the Suspend Orders rule, and this does what it says on the tin - as it were.

We are looking at v9 when that is released (I believe towards the end of this year) and so I hope Actinic will look at this rule of customers only being able to order what is stated as being in stock.

We are looking at v9 when that is released (I believe towards the end of this year) and so I hope Actinic will look at this rule of customers only being able to order what is stated as being in stock.

This would probably need to be an option as there could be cases where someone wants to enable stock control, but is happy for the customer to order more than they have in stock. (although the logic behind this escapes me, why would anyone want to stop selling something when they have none left, but are happy for the customer to order more than they actually have? Still, retailers are an odd bunch and there's usually somone who wants to do something differently, which is why I suggest this being optional)
