    Template similar to Version 8's...

In version 8 there is a product template that basically justifies an image to the left and the product text starts off at the side of the image and then formats itself under the image like this..

    _____
    | |xxxxx x xxx
    | |xxxxx xxxxx
    |____|xxxxxxxxxxx
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Is this possible to achieve with a version 7 template?

that layout is CSS based. You could try and copy from 8 to 7 but Ive never tried it.

I doubt if V7 has any layouts exclusively CSS based, but you could easily take the basics of a v8 layout and have similar styling. There is nothing in v7 to stop you having a CSS layout, you just need to design it, rather than select from a drop down list like you do in v8.

Hell, why not upgrade to v8 and do yourself a favour, v7 is on it's last legs.

NO it does not - but if you copy and paste the layout code and css file from V8 it might work

Or search the forum for the v7 post by jont which introduced the floated image with wrapped text into Actinic.

          [EDIT] Here's the link http://community.actinic.com/showthr...loat+text+wrap [/EDIT]

Sounds a nightmare to me, variables, netquotevars, tables, templates, layouts - sharp exit cometh.

Me to but its no effort to try it. As you say it may be easier to upgrade to V8 for the time saving alone

                Thanks Guys,

The 'Float' works really well... although i feel an upgrade is over due too.

Is version 7 really "on its last legs"? Ive taken a look at 8 and Im struggling to justify the upgrade costs.

I dont think so at the moment - Im just starting a V7 redesign today and as you say you need to look at the cost benifits.

What V8 is better at is improved SERPs and that is a difficult area to judge - it may be that by upgrading you can get better SERPs and profits that will cover the costs.

What is clear is that Actinic will stop supporting V7 - possibly when V9 is released and the level of V7 knowledge and advice in the forum will decrease as people forget how V7 worked or have never used it (its totally different to V7).

                    Hi,

Norman helped me out with a template for v7 that lets the text fall under the image, you can also use the following code to force the text under the image if needed

                    !!<<br clear=all>>!!

Rename it to html and copy it to your site 1 folder. Hope it helps.

The issue here is not necessarily whether to go for v8 right now, but you do need to build upgrade costs into daily costings, once v9 comes out Atinic will drop support for 7 - then you'll have to upgrade.

So the decision is WHEN to upgrade and not IF

I have found that alternates is a good cost effectiove method, ie go from 4 to 6 to 8 or 7 to 9

Whislt Actinic supports the latest version and minus 1 it tends to take a few months for support to be dropped, so if you go 9 early on you wil lhave 7 supported to. Another thing to consider is there is a huge diiference 7 to 8 so 7 to 8 will be equally painful as 7 to 9
