Search Settings .AND. and .OR. for multiples....

    Hi,

I have added a Searchable property to all of my Products, called SIGNSIZE, however it only works using the .OR. (Union) option in the settings box, which is useless as this in effect ignores the default text search.

If I select .AND. (Intersection), so that I can look for signs with, for example, text "mandatory" and sign size "A4", etc, i always get zero results, when i know there are loads of results.

I've checked over this several times, but cannot see what I'm doing wrong.

    Any ideas, Simon?

Have you checked the excluded words list to make sure A4 is not in that list?

        I tried a quicksearch for 210.0 x 297.0.

Only sign returned was the Mandatory Eye Protection - and it returned 7 variations of that sign, most of which only had the .0

A quicksearch for exit A4 turned up the 196mm size which has the text A4 in the description.

The trouble is that you search for 210.0 x 297.0
2 is true if it appears anywhere in the product short description, full description etc
1 is true if it appears anywhere in the ...
0 is true if it appears anywhere in the ...
9 is true if it appears anywhere in the ...
7 is true if it appears anywhere in the ...
and the decimal point gets ignored

You need returns which have the exact 'phrase' in the size property and ONLY in the size property.

If it's a common requirement, you may be best creating an A4 section, and populating it with cut down duplicates which link through to the main products.

Quick Search is fine. i have included all Parent Section details/text to openup the searching a little, and thats why you get excessive results from the simplest of search's. Essentially I would expect wordy search's, etc etc.

No, my problem is with, what you would call, the Advanced Search.

I am trying to smarten it up and add Searchable properties, but they do not work as an .AND. , which is really the whole point of Advanced Searching, i.e. controlled tuning of your requirements to focus results.

I've only added one attribute so far and it won't work properly, I want to add more?

          Any ideas on that?

          Appreciate your input, Simon.

            Simon -

I see what you mean now - did you build the dropdown items manually and could there be a leading (or extra) space that is causing the match to fail?

If that's not it, have a read of the Advanced User Guide 8 v15 page 120 to 122. See if that helps you get this working.

I'm on V7, and looked at that AUG, pages, 57 and 58.

Its very thin on the ground with detail, and it looks like I'm doing what is required.

Its possible but the additional search attributes, in this case Size, comes from a CUSTOMVAR, and is automatically generated as a drop down list.

Any further ideas would be appreciated.

              Thanks, Simon.
