Opinions on Checkout & Basket Composition

I'm currently working on editing the design of my Checkout & Basket pages, and have got down to the bit where it has the following buttons:

Update: Save: Retrieve: Continue Shopping: Checkout Now:

I will be replacing these buttons, but am also thinking of letting two of them go. Leaving me with - Update: Continue Shopping: Checkout Now: for the View basket page, and maybe just - Update: Continue Shopping: for the checkout page.

Does anyone think this is a good idea?... A bad idea? .... An idea not worth mentioning?

    Many thanks,

    Myles

Do you think your customers will like it?

Will it cause them any problems with the changes?

I think so. I know I think it would look better.

Probably not. I have no idea how "save" differs from "update", so my customers probably won't either. Again with "Retrieve", what is it supposed to do? If I don't know, will they?

Thanks for asking the questions. It's helped make up my mind!

well, this is another problem whereby a designer assumed that the client would understand the meaning of the buttons.

Why not simply move them to another, less cluttery place, and rename them to:

'Update the contents of the cart' and
'Save this cart for later' and
          'Load my saved cart'

          Someone might use them.

            That sounds like a plan!

'Save this cart for later' and
            'Load my saved cart'
The cart contents seem to be automatically saved on my site, and the contents will appear in the cart when the page is reloaded.

Maybe this works different on other sites, but it looks like I can safely lose these two!
