I Want To Add A Side Bar - Unsure How?

    Hi,

I am wanting to add a left hand side bar to my site so I can add some adverts etc to it. I have searched but cannot see how to do this using the template I have used. I have used the businessCSS theme.

Any pointers or help gratefully received.

Probably best to switch to a theme with them already done for you.

There is Matt, but it's a case of if you have to ask how, then it is way outside of your comfort zone and you should not attempt it to be honest. It will take someone far too long to explain in a forum and that (for me) is outside of peer support and into 'free design'.

BUT, you might be lucky and catch someone on a good day, it is quite a task and practically impossible to instruct through a forum though. It'd be quicker to do it than write how to etc. You need to have an incline what to do here, without that, stick to something standard.

You will regret it if you start it, but if you're brave enough or have more ability than you are illustrating, roll the dice and have a go. Just snapshot before you try.

There must be a standard theme that can get you close to what you want, it'll be far easier to adjust an existing than try to create a new IMO.

Thanks for the feedback Lee, I am up for a challenge but dont really have the time.

Which theme in V7 would you say is most like what I am after?

Get rid of that theme - it is an old V4/6 theme and is terrible for usability. Change to the smart or best seller as they ahve what you are looking for

I'm not much up on the themes in v8 as i never use them, let alone v7, although i think they are pretty similar. As much as i hate to say it, i think the smart theme was a common 3 column theme used on v7. See what you think of that.

if you use either of these themes all the info you need to do what you want is already on the forum as it was a common request in the days of v7 - so searching will do the rest for you.

Thank You All. I will go back to the drawing board then.

One more thing, what do I need to search for once I have changed the theme?

Many thanks again for your help and advice

Personally I'm sick to death of the Smart theme, its very easy to make it look very naff.

I'd go for BestSeller but reorganise the left hand nav to make it more intuitive.

I agree Business CSS is very old hat

The smart theme is a good launch pad. Start with subtle colours and then modify the layout as and when required. There is a lot of v7 threads about the smart theme.

Still a favourite is Nicks Perfect Pad which uses the smart theme layout to great effect.
