Removing mandatory status of optional free-form text field with products.

Hi All

On my site I have options for gift-wrapping that also allows you to fill in a text box for the message on the gift tag.

At the moment this free-form text field is mandatory and if a customer adds to cart without entering any text the following message appears:

The following product(s) can not be added to the cart.
You can find the error description(s) by following the link(s).

Is there anyway of removing the mandatory status of the free-form text field - or if that is not possible - pre-populating the field with a space so that I can bypass the mandatory requirement...not everyone will want to add a message.

if there isn't a way to make it optional, could you pre-populate it with the word "none" as a workaround, perhaps?

Thanks. That's what I thought. Maybe a line stating "Write your message here".

Is pre-populating the field easy? I'm not near Actinic or the user guides at the moment but will have a look over the weekend.
