Time-outs on the checkout perl script

In the last 4-6 weeks we have experienced significant delays on the processing of the os000007.pl script at the end of the chekout phase.

Our web hosts can't work out what the problem is. The checkout phase is either very slow or just hangs and then times out.

Any suggestions?

I remember seeing something like this before being due to slow smtp servers.

Looking at your error log there are a few of instances of the server showing errors because the SMTP server is too busy, which suggests this could well be the problem.

Mike - that is hugely helpful - and would explain a lot. we've been experiencing problems with our smtp server during the same period.
