    Mailing List

Hi currenly i am using Group Mail Free to import customer detail with persons.csv. This can be done only when customer check out. Is there a way that allow customer to submit their detail and email address on the very first page of the site? Thank

Use a form that re-directs to the next page

We used a form to get email adresses in the past. The form re-directed to another page in the catalogue. It was a simple version of Matts Form to Email from Matts Script Archive (dont have details here but google will know). Worked a treat and emailed the details to one of our email addresses. Dont use it any more as we no longer want that info.
If you incorporate it in an actinic template or product area etc, make sure its NOT embedded in an existing form!!!

If upgrade groupmail to the next version (you have to pay for that one) then you can use their subscription module to collect email from your site. We use it, it is not brilliant but it works.

One problem with the subscriber module is that is has to be run manually so we have written a Mole to automate it. See http://www.mole-end.biz/acatalog/Email_Marketing_s.html for more details and a free trial.

          understanding perl

OK, IF you are an IT student getting into this stuff, you might find a need to look into how things like perl scripts run. I suggest you look on the web at matts script archive and go through the documents and examples. Live to Learn!

If you are not an IT student, then its a different matter, - maybe find someone who is an IT person, and get them to work on the project.

sorry, not the answer you wanted I know!

          the basics are this:

you put a perl program called formmail on the webserver - (check if it already exists, talk to your web team about use policy too).

you then add a simple html form to your web page that asks for the details you want. then you add a button that says 'next' or 'shop now' or similar. that button sends the form to the formmail program, which emails YOU the details you wanted, and then it sends the surfer to the page you wanted them to go to.

          go look it up! ;o)
