    Final nail in the coffin?

    I've never had much luck with Actinic, now (just for good measure) the PC that has Actinic installed on it has died I've got a new PC but have no idea how to connect up to my site, I have my access key number but the original cd with Actinic on it it has been lost. Can I revive my website or is it destined to remain in orbit forever

    You can download Actinic and install it and enter your key BUT without a snapshot of your site then you will have to cut and paste bits of text etc from the online site into a new design in Actinic - essentially starting again.

    Maintaining regular snapshots and backups are vital.

    Maybe you can still recover information from the old hard drive. There were many posts in the past regading recovering data - try a search.

      Do you have a backup or snapshot that wasn't stored on the PC that Actinic was running on?

        the PC that has Actinic installed on it has died
        If the hard disk from that PC is still working (perhaps your motherboard or CPU died, not the C drive) it may be worth installing it into the new PC (or put into an USB caddy).

        Then see if you can see the Actinic files on that drive.

          Regards,
          Fortunately I have a backup copy on CD (actinicbackup.acd) but cant seem to import it onto the new site, I get this message;

          There was an error in the first line of the file D:\actinicbackup.acd Please check the file and try again

          Not sure why

            Make sure you are using the same version of Actinic on the new PC as you were on the old PC or newer.

            The .acd file is a zip file and can be opened with winzip (preferably the old version v7). If it opens with winzip v7 then the archive should be ok.

            You can check your current version by looking online at /acatalog/ver.fil or in th archive in the database in table Setup (I think thre are also other ways of determining the version number - if you search the forum you may find them)

              It looks to me as if you are trying to import using the File / Import option rather than importing a snapshot, using the File / Snapshot / Import site options.
