Moving Actinic v7 to a new PC

Hey all

In January I am going to move my site on Actinic v7 away from its current laptop to a new superfast PC.

The laptop I am using is quite old now (c. 4 years) and also has many other programs on it that I am sure impacts performance. Whilst I could remove the programs I still think a new high spec PC would help speed up Actinic which now chugs away due to the size of my site.

Has anyone ever moved there Actinic v7 from one PC to another? Have you ever experienced any problems? Do you have anytips?

A snapshot is all you need. The only problems you will encounter are those if you have not set the shop up correctly, usually image locations. No need for tips, should be literally a really simple 10 minute job.

we did a transfer recently and as Lee says the only thing we experienced were the images location being different.

if you are confident with Access this is easily solved with a find/replace in one of the tables. (if i remember well) (take copy of the database first just in case)

If you're running Vista on your new PC make sure that you are up to v707 first.

I'm going to invest in a PC that is as powerful as possible. Our site is over 6000 products and Actinic does grind away at the moment.

I'm going to avoid Windows Vista for this PC though!

Your business would benefit far more from an upgrade to v8 than a new system IMO, systems make a slight change, but not worth writing home about. Most of the improvements you think you see are just psychological as the keys and the screen are shining and it just looks faster.

Thanks. I agree version 8 (or 9) is definately one for the future but not yet...

From downloading the V8 trial, there seems to be quite some work to be done to upgrade (and importantly test) the site. Whilst there are clearly alot of beneifts, we are seeing such high levels sales growth from initiatives in other areas of the business (e.g. marketing, etc.) we want to keep our eye on the ball there.

I get the impression from reading through a forum that an upgrade from v7 to v8 would take at least three to four weeks. I suspect it could be a little more on top of that.

We need 3 new PCs (for new staff) so I will re-use the old laptop for one of our new staff and give Actinic its own new PC. The current laptop has so many applications on it (and really is low spec) I'm sure there will be some benefits from giving Actinic a standalone PC.
