I want to begin designing some more sites with Actinic - is the multi-site version essential and if so, what is the cost of the upgrade?

Best to chat to Actinic sales re costs.
But bear in mind that multisite allows you to run multiple sites on one PC - good for a shop keeper with more than one shop
but Designer/client software is for a designer/developer so they can deploy the day to day operation to clients for updating products/downloading orders
