    Dreamweaver advice

Before I go ahead and mess everything up!

I now have dreamweaver, if I take the template html into dreamweaver and add, edit text, boxes etc is this going to mess up the way actinic works or will I just be able to use dreamweaver for the design elements, import back into actinic and then have a working e-commerce system

    Any replies greatly appreciated

You can modify the templates in DW but be careful if you modify any Actnic 'tags'. I find that with DW MX2004 it doesn't format properly in preview in DW. In many cases you will have to add the outer bulk (html and table tags) around the templates in order to view them in DW (or any other WYSIWYG editor).

You can go ahead and make changes in DW, save and check in Actinic again. Make small changes at a time and backup often.

Personally in v7 I only use DW to create the intiial designs then make modifcations in notepad and view in Actinic preview.

            Thanks for the advice

Ruralweb - I take it you mean set Dreamweaver as my editor?

Would like to upgrade but need to make some money using 7 to get to that step

You have very little hope of doing that as V7 old and featureless compared to V8 and will soon not be supported by Actinic as V9 is almost here.

That's a false economy i'm afraid, V8 takes more money and quicker than V7, so if you persist with V7, you are in fact delaying the process of taking money. I can see where you are coming from though, i think you need to look a bit more long term and get rid of short term thinking with a website though.

There's nowt more permanent than a temporary solution, design this site in V7 and you have your bad excuse never to move up then. Viscious circle. Even the stubbornest V7 stalwarts have left it long behind, you should do too.

You may well design in V7 but how will your client by the software to run the website when Actinic no longer sell it

Stands to reason - V9 will be out this year - Actinic will drop support/purchase for V7 as they did for V6 when V8 came out - it will take a beginner several months to get a site designed and running using V7 so by that time the client will not be able to buy the software. Also if they have any inteligence the client will see that thier site has been designed using 4 year old software and want the site converting to V8/9 which will be a huge learning curve as we all know for people who are used to V7

I know what you're saying but before I go ahead and spend more money I'd like to just test the water, I bought v7 for a pretty low price so even if I make 10 sales off it it's paid the outlay out.

I'll do design in dreamweaver as this html goes over my head

If you are not using html in dreamweaver, what are you using? I'm confused. You do realise that V8 has a specific dreamweaver integration module. Most of us use this each and every day, its a great feature.

I assume he means WYSIWYG coding within DW - however using this type of code within actinic is tantamount to a disaster waiting to happen - sigh!
