Transferring information from one site to another

Unfortunately our web host's server died over new year and in the process wiped out our site. They've put us on another server but it's not set up right and we're having no end of trouble with permissions. Of course it doesn't help that the web host is in the US …

But anyway, my question is this:

We have (had) an online store which was created with v 7.04 Business and which worked well for us. However, the design was dated and needed updating; so I created another version of the site on a different computer, and tested it on our internal file server.

However, because of other distractions, only the old online store was kept up to date with stock and product changes, postage cost updates, etc.

Now, due to the web host's server crashing, we are without a site, and rather than uploading the old site, I want to upload the new design as I was going to do it early this year anyway.

I have created a snapshot of the old site, and also of the new site, but before I import anything and eradicate what I've created, I want all the up-to-date details from the old site, but with the look of the new site.

What would be the quickest way to do that? Would it be to import the old site, but put aside all the templates from the new site, then replace the templates of the old site; or would it be a case of leaving the new site as it is, and copying the files that describe the content of the site from the old?

Or, as I've just bought an upgrade to v8 Business (just waiting for delivery) would it be better just to start again, taking the elements from both the old and new sites to create a new v8 site?

    Any ideas gratefully received.

go with v8 and import the snapshot that has the latest product info/prices into 8. 8 will take a 7 snapshot - tell it to use the default v8 theme and apply a new design from this.

      Thanks Jo.

I was thinking that myself as it sounds like the best way to go.
