    fragment image with text below

    hi guys,

been searching for hours trying to find out how to alter a fragment so the image is on top and the text is below. I know I can select "text only" and insert html into the text box but I cannot find what html I need to use.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Regards

    Ali

Create a new layout and just reverse the order of the variables in the new layout code.

This is V7, so Lee's V8 reference to layouts won't apply.

Fragment Details / General / Layout / Edit. You can save the resulting file to a new name and use that instead of the Actinic supplied original.

          Alison,

The design of each fragment layouts is held in a file in your Site1 folder called things like:
          Act_TextAndTitle.html
          Act_TextOnly.html
          Act_LeftImageAndTitle.html
          etc.

In the Site1 folder, copy one these (one with Image in the name) and give your copy a new name. Then edit it using Notepad to modify the HTML (you may need help here, but the fragment layouts are very small).

Then, in Actinic, with the fragement itself selected, instead of choosing one of the pre-prepared layouts, click on Select... and then Browse... and then find your new file. Once selected, its filename will appear in the Layout box.

Once you've done this, you can still edit the new .html file, save it and refresh the page, and any changes will be show in teh Preview.

(Norman's route to editing is simpler than mine)

Thanks Alan, I will give it a try. I did manage to get it to work by pasting html text into the text box. Any disadvantages in doing it that way?

Means you need to do this every time you want a fragment to look like that and then edit the embedded HTML with a high chance of making a mistake. Once you have a template, you can reuse is as much as you like. The images on the index page on my site are done with home-made fragment templates.

heres what I tried. I opened a template with image left and text right. I reversed the variablles and renamed it "image_on_top.html
Now all that happens is the image and text are reversed. What do I add in order to get image on top and text on bottom?

I think you'll find that everything you need to re-arrange is within an HTML table (<table>.....</table>). Tables are basic HTML and you should find many tutorials about them on the 'net.

Spend a little time learning rather than being spoon-fed a solution and you'll be prepared for the next time you need to change something.

Sorry Alison, i am firmly stuck in V8 mode and never noticed it was V7.
Get yourself onto V8 asap, you will find things like this so much easier, you really will.

Being a complete novice I am so grateful to all the usual people who help me on this forum. I take great offence at your comment as it may be read by others in a similar position to myself and put them off asking for advice. I do spend hours trawling the forums etc looking for answers and it's only when I'm really stuck that I post a question. Fortunately, everyone else who has helped in the past has been a credit to this forum as I thought that was what it was for. I suggest that you 'spend a little time' on your communication skills.

                            Alison,

I've noticed a few other people being exasperated trying to help you. It seems to take umpteen posts (about 17 on your other thread today) before you get the message where it should have been clear within the first few. In this thread it was you who asked to be spoon fed the solution - What do I add in order to get image on top and text on bottom.

So for others reading this, don't worry - I'll only complain if you are an idiot.

As for Alison, I presume you did in fact go out and learn some elementary HTML and that will put you in much better position with your next problem, particularly since I'm unlikely to want to help. Luckily you got that Perl cart script mod (which I went to some effort to provide) before now.

I have not answered your question because I know that the answer is already in the V7 forum so I dont quite believe that you have searched for it TBH.

However people have been good enough to help you and turning round at the end of it all and insulting one on the most helpful members of the forum just because he highlights that you need to do some work yourself I find very offensive. I suggest you post your next question very carefully as you may find yourself getting very little help in future.
