Can't find Index file

Hi Duncan,

This takes us right back to my original question and confirms for me that there is something fundamentally wrong with my site.

When I go to the Content Tree and highlight the homepage, it already shows the name 'index.html' and the page details panel also shows that for Page Filename. When I go to Design | Options | Site Defaults, it shows the Base Page_Name as Act_BrochurePrimary but it won't allow me to change it to 'index.html'. I get a message saying "File not found".

I've tried browsing through all the folders but it's not there. The closest thing I have is P_index in the Preview HTML folder.

Still struggling here! I've maged to create an 'index' file by copying and renaming the SiteRoot_index, as it previews just like the original home page. I don't know if that was the right thing to do or not but after uploading , the Home page now shows as 'index'. However, it is not listed as being part of the acatalog folder.

I checked the acatalog folder on the server and the 'index' file is definitely there, so what is going wrong?

Also, I still cannot make any changes to the Home page. I have altered the code in Act_Primary, Act_Brochure Primary and in index.html but none of these have had any effect, apart from modifying the brochure pages.

Any further help would be very welcome as I seem to be getting into a bigger (probably self-inflicted) mess here. Unfortunately, I have to go out again soon, for a few hours and won't be able to reply for some time.

Hold on, back up a bit. Do not make any changes to preview pages produced by Actinic - those P_xxx - only ever modify templates.

There is something amiss here. Did you check that Act_BrochurePrimary is actually the template being used for your brochure pages as I mentioned earlier?

"Check if this is the case by clicking on the 'house' at the top of your catalog tree in Actinic and see what the layout name is - that will be the template name you need to edit for that brochure pages."

If you have an earlier snapshot (I hope so) then I would revert backwards to get to where everything works as it should if not then make a snapshot - put it to one side and reinstall Actinic - then try uploading the basic default Actinic store without any modifications in test mode. Once you get that right then you will better understand what's going on. Then hopefully you can import your snapshot and sort out the mess.

Alistair do yourself a big favour and admit defeat, you tried, you failed, now get someone in who knows what they are doing. To do what you want is a half hour job max. Contact a local professional (details on the actinic site) and once they have done it, take a look and try to fathom it out. You are in a downward spiral which usually ends up in a completely trashed site, which is then compounded further as it's a pretty sure fire bet that you do not have a recent snapshot.

It's not a weakness to admit defeat, it's good business and plain old common sense.

You have to editing the wrong templates then. Check which templates are being used for the main parts of the site. The templates you mentioned are the default out-of-the-box names but these may have been changed at some point and you are editing the old copies.

As Duncan points out you should ignore the filenames in the content tree... these are the finished pages compiled from many templates and the text and info from the database. All the templates are in the root of the site folder and named in a semi self-explanatory manner.
