Advice when tidying up Site 1 Folder

In preparation for a site overhaul - we're giving our 'site 1' folder a spring clean.

    1. Is it ok to have sub folders in site 1? (i.e - have images filed by brand etc)

    2. The 'siteHTML' folder appears to have load of stuff in there that is old and unused - am I safe to delete - or do you think it wiser to create another folder called 'old stuff' (or something), and keep it.

    3. Is there a way of automatically seeing if files are still being used on the site - or do we have to do it manually?

    Thanks - Nick

some might say no but I have mine in sub folders (and sub folders of sub folders...sometimes many levels deep!) and they all work fine as long as they are being referenced as section/product images.

They don't work in sub folders if they're being used in the main site framework. ie. header images, hard coded files etc.....basically anything that is referenced outside of fragment/product/section images.

(editted to say, I did notice this was a V7 thread and this may differ in V8 but I don't think so)

      1. Yes, there's an image tutorial on my site if you want to read a bit more about it
      2. Leave alone, do not touch
      3. A snapshot includes all images being used, so you can snapshot, then delete the images and then reimport the snapshot. MAKE SURE you snapshot before you try!

hmmm... interesting idea. Just make sure that you copy the images you're deleting to somewhere else, if there's an outside chance you might need them again in the future.

          Help!

After we deleted the images, we tried to import the snapshot but got the following message,

          FATAL ERRORS
(File ImportBackup.cpp, Line 316) - Archive error 5 - The compression operation failed
Library error - Can not open file C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\Sites\Site1\ActinicCatalog.ldb ! has been caught.
(File ExportFiles.cpp, Line 301) - Archive error 13 - Extract selected files call failed
Library error - Error creating file C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\Sites\Site1\ActinicCatalog.mdb ! has been caught.
Now we can neither import or export a snapshot.

          Any thoughts

.ldb is just that the database is being seen as open. A close down of actinic and maybe a reboot sometimes gets rid of this.

Panic over - Duncans suggestion did the trick.
                Thanks.
