Submenu Pop Up links

I have searched the forum but can find nothing to help


On a version 7 site I run, the client wants to have a submenu popup when you roll over the main navigation link on the site, I'm not sure where to start with this as I havent used v7 for a while and the client doesnt want to upgrade (yet!)


and also for future reference is this easier to achieve in v8?

Javascript 'Tooltips' would do this and can be customised beyond the basic standard. But if you have a lot of them, they slow up page load times.
