    Password protect Actinic software (v7)

    Hi there,

I was just wondering if it's possible to password protect Actinic v7 so that each time you run the software it asks you for a password? I've looked through the forum but cna only see advice on doing this in v8 - that solution doesn't work in v7 so I was wondering if there is a way to do it?
    Cheers

    Hi Stuart,
I'm afriad the only simple answer to this is to upgrade to V9 as this latest version encapsulates these security features you require. V7 is an old version of the software.

      Thanks Fergus,

I've suggested this to my client but I think the cost is putting him off doing that. I asked Actinic for the cost and they said my client would need to pay for the Actinic Cover subscription in order to receive software upgrades. Is that correct?
      Cheers

        Yes, that's correct.

just use windows users, and restrict access to the program so that only certain windows users can run it. You can do this with any software.

Whilst logged in as admin, Right click the software, properties, security and configure it there, alternatively, a more comprehensive way to lock the software down is to use windows steadystate, which will stop the program running for certain users as a policy.

sadly, this procedure does not stop me from ripping orders/details out of the actiniccatalog.mdb.

its far from a secure notion.

you can set permissions on any program, folder or file. Just set your database permissions to the same as the users for actinic, in fact, set the whole folder so that only the right users have access.

If your other users don't need direct access to the drive, disable access to it in steady state.
