the cgi scripts are all bad!

I've got a major problem with my site http://www.flyingneedle.com. I can't put things in the shopping cart, can't login, can't search. It seems the CGI scripts are bad. I've generated them all anew (Advanced > Generate Scripts) and ftp'd them to my server. There were some new pieces - the Java applet archive and classes, which I put up but don't think they're necessary to my site?

    Actinic Biz v.7.0.7.1HCFA US

Another question: Our computer crashed and we've been slowly rebuilding the site. I think there might still be image files missing since we're getting an error on the "merge incremental updates at the website" section of the upload. Is there any easier way to figure out which images might be missing?

To update your web site installation,
o Transfer the CGI scripts to the CGI-BIN on your web server:
    nq000001.pl
    ms000001.pl
    mf000001.pl
    ca000001.pl
    os000001.pl
    bb000001.pl
    ss000001.pl
    se000001.pl
    cm000001.pl
    rs000001.pl
    sh000001.pl
    md000001.pl
    al000001.pm
    ad000001.pm
    as000001.pm
    di000001.pm
    ae000001.pm
    ao000001.pm
    ac000001.pm
    px000001.pm
    ax000001.pm
    cm000001.pm
    sm000001.pm
    ab000001.pm
    sl000001.pm
    dd000001.pm
    nph-dl000001.pl

o Create the Actinic web site directory
o Place the Java applet archive files in the Actinic web site directory:
    encrypt.zip
    encrypt.cab
o Create a subdirectory tree (COM/Actinic/Catalog) off of your
catalog web site directory and place the loose Java applet
    class files in it:
    EA.class
    BOS.class
    OB.class
    OR.class
    R.class
    TD.class
    S.class
    FI.class
    IC.class

If the web server is a UNIX server, be sure to set the proper executable permissions on the CGI scripts. The CGI scripts can be found in C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\Sites\Site1\. The applet archives and loose classes can be found in C:\Program Files\Actinic v7\.

Many things to check but initially run a network test in Actinic and check for errors.
Check the permissions on cgi-bin and acatalog to be 755.

Was it working before and just stopped or is it a new site?

You shouldn't need to manually upload the scripts.

do a purge and refresh. As Duncan says you should not be using FTP to send files you must use actinic.

I would be surprised if the two are related. Typically the incremental merge error is not critical and is often simply the server timing out - it is usually nothing to worry about.

If you have missing images connect to your site via FTP and download all the images into a temp location on your computer and you can add them back into the site1 folder as required.

The network test went fine (and i ran it several times). I checked the cgi-bin permissions and it was 755. I'll double check acatalog, but I'd be surprised it it had changed.

The site has been up for several years on the same server, but the computer we keep actinic on crashed and while I could rescue most files, I couldn't do a nice clean site snapshot. While rebuilding, I upgraded Actinic to the v7.0.7.1HCFA from 7.0.5, which caused additional problems.

I'm sorry, I don't follow what you're saying here. Under housekeeping, all the purge options are for things that have been deleted in the database, which isn't relevant for us at this time. Mind clarifying for me?

            Thanks,

The /acatalog/ was set to 777 so i changed it to 755. No effect.

              More ideas?

              Thanks!

Its NOT under housekeeping. Go to Help | Troubleshooting | website Purge and refresh- select both check boxes and purge

Got it, thanks. It's running now and some things are working already :-)

                    More trouble

Okay, I took RuralWeb's advice and did the purge & refresh thing. It helped a lot, but there's still some problems:

                    Works:
                    Put in cart
                    Check out
                    Email form

                    Doesn't work:
                    Search
                    Login

And... the strangest thing... The "Upload site" "download orders" buttons don't work within Actinic! I even tried to go back and do another purge & refresh and it won't work! (yes, i rebooted, i compacted both dbs...)

                    :-(

Check business setting to ensure that order download and content changes are selected.

It may be that your uploading files by ftp have broken something on the server so it maybe an idea to wipe the server and do a clean upload

Odd about the upload/download in Actinic.

For the search etc. - try changing the script ID and then doing another purge and refresh.

Yes, both those settings are checked.

I'm hoping to not have to do a clean upload - it takes about 6 hrs... but if I gotta, i gotta...

ok before you resort to full purge and refresh, try simply deleting the cgi scripts and doing an uplaod - delete them from the webserver and delete the generated ones in site1 ie the ones xx0000001.pl

this will have the effect of taking the original scripts ie orderscript.pl and so on and generating os0000001.pl and uploading it.

do this - but if it doesn't work be prepared for a full purge afterwards

do this at your own risk!

Explanation - for v7 and lower a full purge includes images. but you can do a cheat purge by deleting .cat, .fil .pl files from both webserver and site1 and do an upload. try it with just .pl then do it with all 3 types.>>>> only for the brave

Okay, I'm really appreciating these suggestions... but I'm stuck on the "buttons don't work" problem before I can clear out the scripts...

These actions (and maybe others) don't work. The hourglass is kinda on & off, but no action screens come up.
                              - upload site
                              - download site
                              - purge & refresh

I tried to repair the actinic installation. Result: no difference. I've rebooted multiple times, compacted the dbs, checked network settings, the upload & download settings are checked under View >Business Settings.

                              Thanks for your help!
