    Hi Steve,
Lee's point is absolutely valid- the vast majority of users here use one of perhaps five hosts, simply because they work well with Actinic and the staff are familiar with how the servers need to be configured for Actinic to work well. When we started, we went with an unknown host which was recommended to me outside the forum, and it was a nightmare to set up. We're now with a host who's experienced with Actinic, and I'm free to spend my time managing our shops, not dealing with IT issues.
Actinic's own hosting is of course very good- for a number of reasons we've ended up elsewhere, but if you search you'll find lots of discussion about good or recommended hosting. If you're not especially computer savvy (like me) then for your sanity's sake, go with the flow on this, and don't put the bank balance first.

If you want a budget host then consider 1and1 Linux Business, if you want a specialist host then consider Actinic hosting.

You should be up and running easily with either.

You can find information on how to set up 1and1 here: http://actinic-tips-n-tricks.posterous.com/how-to-set-up-actinic-on-1and1-shared-linux-s

Stick with the known ones that work if you do not have the experience to sort everything out.

I used to host sites for quite a few people so picked up alot of experience in understanding network settings and control panels but i have always been able to get actinic to work on the ones i have chosen or setup. Some hosts dont have all the modules installed for "paypal callbacks" "compressed upload" and will give you problems down the road. If your going for a shared service then you are unlikely to get these modules installed. If you have your own dedicated server or vps solution then you can.

I currently use nublue - support is the best i have come across and general all round reliabilty seems to be good (still early days so no real evidence). But their shared servers dont have some of the modules installed, although actinic runs

but if you dont have the time or experience then go with the advice on here.
