    preview html folder query

    ello!!

right, nearly at the end of a mahoosive build of our new store and i have literally thousands of pages in the preview html folder. I'm having to go in and edit a few of the pages actinic creates with dreamweaver to get the look we want and these pages are getting on my nerves..

my question is.. can i safely delete these files and let actinic recompile these pages or is that a complete no-no??

any advice would be a help b4 i destroy 4 months work

    cheers!!

The pages in the PreviewHTML folder are just that. Previews! Any editing that you do to them is a complete waste of time as regards what you will get in the live site.

The files in the SiteHTML folder are the ones that are loaded up to the live site. But there is a catch with the approach that you are using. These files are regenerated everytime that you Refresh or Update your site and so all your edits will be lost.

Unless you want to do loads of manual editing every time you change something, you need to edit the templates. This is the only way to make your changes sticky.

      Cheers Chris,

I have edited up the templates so they are all cool. its just certain pages that i'm editing after i do a site preview. i have these under a diff file name which i'll just change once i've uploaded the store. just basically a much nicer index page, terms page, email list page etc..

I just needed to make sure that b4 i delete all this pages i'm not making a major boob!!!! sure u know what i mean!!

      thanks for the advice.

        Not sure that I do.

Anything that Actinic generates (i.e. anything in the PreviewHTML and SiteHTML) can be deleted - Actinic will regenerate it. Your special pages should be kept in a different folder, therefore.

Or am I not answering your question?

          U answered it just then

"Anything that Actinic generates (i.e. anything in the PreviewHTML and SiteHTML) can be deleted - Actinic will regenerate it."

Spot on, the other pages are in a seperate folder, ready for upload once Actinic has generated & uploaded its versions..

Thanks for your help with my badly worded question!! i knew what i meant (which is rare) but i guess my question wasn't phrased too well!

          Cheers dude!
