Problems with multiple add to kart buttons

    Hi there,

My latest problem with upgrading from V4 to V6.02 is that we had many items where instead of having just one buy button, there was a selection of different sizes of the item so we inserted 3 buttons, now it does not work with V6. I know it is probably a set up problem, but if someone has a quick answer that would be good. And yes I agree with a previous comment in that sending e-mails when you want to say it has been shipped is annoying when it defaults to your order has been paid. Another hate is the packing list ! We use product codes from 2000 to 7000 and when you view a order on screen the packing list is listed in from the lowest number to the highest in order, very good that. But when you print it, it then lists it in the order that the customer ordered it ! This means packers are going up and down the lines all the time instead of starting at one end and going to the other.

Overall the software is good when you considier the price... but there comes a time when we might have to move otherwise we are going to get buried, if the length of time it has taken to go from version 3 to version 6 continues with version 7 etc, espically if the first release of version 7 has the sort of problems that version 5, yes we must all remember that one....and version 6 has had.

Whoa - quite a lot in there. I'll deal with it one at a time.

there was a selection of different sizes of the item so we inserted 3 buttons, now it does not work with V6

Is this the one where you used to be able to enter text into the 'button prompt' and then tick 'Hide on Web Site'. From memory, this was actually a minor bug which was exploited to work in this way, but was then replaced by attributes and choices. Would you be able to use these instead?

This means packers are going up and down the lines all the time instead of starting at one end and going to the other.

Try the 'Outstanding Products' report. This should group all the same products together and help you with selecting from your warehouse.

espically if the first release of version 7 has the sort of problems that version 5, yes we must all remember that one....and version 6 has had.

We have been focussing very heavily on reliability and you would have found that the first version 6 release was a lot more reliable than version 5 was when it came out. So far their has only been one maintenance patch. We aim to continue this process into the future, which will mean that version 7 will be more quickly reliable again.

Yes, hidding the product meant you could have multiple buttons per product. The point is that this was easy and quick to do and we have had this feature, or " bug" as you call it from version 3. I am converting them to attributes etc but it is a long. long job in comparison. The other point is we did not realise that V6 had removed this feature for nearly 5 days. It is 3 am and I am still working on them as some just will not work !

Clicking with ? in button prompt still say:

"Adding an item to the cart in the online catalog is achieved by clicking a button with the default label 'Add to Shopping Cart'. The Button Prompt can be used to override the default label on a per product basis. If "Hide on the Web Site" is checked, and a button prompt is specified, then a button is automatically added to the most recent product above this one in this section that has "Hide on the Web Site" un-checked."

I had this working from an early download of v6, although not with "qty on product page" , but after update no longer possible.

I have a site with more than 8000 part no's and this was fairly easy to update through flat file importing from spreadsheet.

With this it was possible to have min/max qty's, weight, etc. for each hidden product.

Components with associated product does not pick up this.

Any way to still have this? -and with flat file importing.

After some investigation, it seems you can still get this feature to work in v6, but you can only use it with a Shopping Mode of 'Quantity on Confirmation Page'.

I will correct the documentation accordingly.

You are right, and I can only apologise. This feature has been half-removed from teh software, but not fuly removed. It will not work at all I'm afraid.

You will have to use components, attributes and choices to build your choice-selection mechanisms for the user. You can still import all your product lines into Actinic, you will just need to mark some of them as 'hidden' if you don't want them appearing in the product pages.

Remember that when you asociate a choice with a hidden product (via the 'Permutations' tab of a component) Actinic allows you to use a 'Pricing' value of 'Associated Product Prices' so you can still control the prices via an import file. Also, if any products are out of stock, customers will be informed about this when they try and order the choice that is associated with that item.

Thanks Chris for a fast reply, saves me a lot of wasted effort.

Yes, I know i can use components with associated products, -it will pickup prices & also weights, but not other details like min/max qty. etc. which would be very usefull, any plans for this?
Also it makes a "silly" listing in shopping cart and on the invoice (I think I have seen somewhere how to fix this).

-and i cannot flat file import components to "main" product (moan!! -sorry). This particular site started with v3 and a few products and has now grown to more than 8000 part no's. with this "feature" being uset a lot, and everything imported via csv file from spreadsheet.
In the spreadsheet i controle all the details like the basic, but also images, links to larger images/extra info, embedded html with seasonal information etc. The total site updated daily in less than 1 hour, I have to look at hierarchical importing but a lot of work here, perhaps somebody have a good idea?
