Replacing navigation buttons with text

Hi guys 'n gals,
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there any way I can replace the button gifs (in Retail theme) with text anchors?

what does the retail theme currently do?

it is just nav images or is it nav images and text?

do you have a URL?

you will need to comment out NETQUOTEVAR:NAVIMAGE and possibly replace it with NETQUOTEVAR:NAVTEXT

it will be easier to tell you how to do it if I can see the live theme

I don't have the site loaded up yet, I'm afraid.

Thinking about this further, I think I'll end up into font and colour issues with the text, so I've "cheated" and made small GIF's of the font I want to use and loaded these instead.
This works well. Thanks for your help....
