I need a little help here. What needs to be done to submit key words to the various search engines? How does Actinic handle this? What can I do?

Search Engines
Hi rsciolino
Actinic handles search engine submissions very well. In order to submit keywords to the major search engines, you need to first ensure that your site is fully optimised (i.e conforms to search engines rules and regulations)
You must then manually submit all the pages on your website to the major search engines in order to ensure that your site will rank well.
What do you need to do this effectively? Assuming you already have moderate to advanced knowledge of HTML, CGI scripting and Server Side Programming, expect to invest at least 12 months of research and trials. Once you acquire the necessary search engine optimisation knowledge, set aside approximately 30 hours per week to keep abreast of developments in the industry. Or you can hire us to save yourself a lot of valuable time and concentrate on your business.

Search engines
Hi John
You are correct, Google only needs to spider the home page to rank the website. However, other engines do not work in the same way as Google, they crawl each individual page once submitted and rank it accordingly. Also, submitting each page to Google helps speed up the indexing of your site as it will inform the spider that more pages have been submitting, therefore directing it to start crawling through the other pages also.
From 5 years experience in the industry, we know the only way to ensure all your web pages rank well is to optimise them correctly, and submit them individually.
Think of it like placing an advert, the more pages you submit, the more chances you have of being seen.Steve Baker,

Search Engines
Hi John
As long as you dont over submit or use any underhand tactics (which we do not advocate) you wont be blockled for manually submitting over one page. Using a software package could result in this.

Steve,
I suggest you read the rules for this forum. particularly:
"No explicitly commercial postings promoting products or services are allowed. Requests for services and quotations from other list members can be made but should be answered by email off line. "
Maybe the forum administrators would like to tidy up this topic.

You should see Steve's even more blatant post on the Any Other Business forum where he states "We are an Actinic approved SEO firm". Is this true?
Norman
p.s. If they so good why don't they hit Number 1 in Google themselves if you search for "Jump Higher" or "Search Engine Optimisation" or even more specifically "Actinic approved SEO firm".Norman - www.drillpine.biz

He's not even accurate.
As far as I know, there isn't a single search engine out that there that needs you to submit each page in your site. Inktomi tried to make you pay at one time but you were better off not paying and letting them come to find you.
Of course, I'm willing to be proved wrong on this. So come on mister 5 years experience. For which search engines is the following a requirement?
"You must then manually submit all the pages on your website to the major search engines in order to ensure that your site will rank well."

in answer to the original question
we recommend spending some time on www.webmasterworld.com which seems to be asking a subscription now for certain areas but is actually well worth it.
another very good place is www.seochat.com and www.searchenginewatch.com
of course, the most simple place is to go to the webmasters area of the search engines in question and they usually tell you exactly what they want to see....with no bias...

PS. Just noticed that jumphigher DO have a pagerank on google for their domain www.jumphigher.co.uk, only a 4 though....
however if you go to www.jump-higher.co.uk you actually see a pagerank of 0 which really does mean that google has indexed that site and barred it....greyed out, as i have been corrected this afternoon means it hasnt been found yet, but pagerank 0 is the serious one as it means google HAS indexed you, and decided you are the lowest possible.
I wonder where you quoteWhat do you need to do this effectively? Assuming you already have moderate to advanced knowledge of HTML, CGI scripting and Server Side Programming

Also, submitting each page to Google helps speed up the indexing of your site as it will inform the spider that more pages have been submitting, therefore directing it to start crawling through the other pages also.
The following is a quote from the google addurl page
Only the top-level page from a host is necessary; you do not need to submit each individual page. Our crawler, Googlebot, will be able to find the rest. Google updates its index on a regular basis, so updated or outdated link submissions are not necessary. Dead links will 'fade out' of our index on our next crawl when we update our entire index.
A good tip for actinic sites is to submit your index page and make sure your index page has a link to the sitemap on it. Thus Google will easily be able to spider the rest of your site.

Search Engines
Hi guys
well looks like a lively debate has ensued...
I dont have time to explain all of the various pit falls and techniques available to you to carry out your SEO campaign, however i would say that resources such as search engine watch and searchengineguide are probably the best places to start.
Jump Higher work on behalf of hundreds of clients and in response to some of the comments below unfortunately we suffer a little from 'plumber syndrome' (they always have a leaky tap) and have not had the time to dedicate as much time to our own site as we do to our clients.
For those who would criticise us i would ask that you have a look at the case studies on our site.. or have a look at a couple of examples: type 'doctors jobs' into google and you'll find one of our clients at number 2 (www.medics-inc.co.uk/jobs.php) or type diabetes consultant into google and find www.consultant-diabetes.com/html/profile.htm at number 1)
Or check out one of our actinic clients type 'maternity bras' and do a uk search and find www.mothernaturebras.co.uk at number 8.
There are hundreds of other examples I could give for those interested.
All of these clients were manually submitted URL by URL.. I would argue that the proof of the pudding is in the eating.. you can either 'hope' google or other search engines will find your site or you can 'make sure they do!' by individually submitting every URL..seeing as we're being paid by our clients Im sure they'd prefer us not to chance it.
There are over 100 factors we take into condsideration when optimising sites and only a few of them have been raised in the comments below.
As for www.jump-higher.co.uk this is a marketing site and is used to support our traditional marketing campaings.. it has never been submitted and hence has no page rank.. also as it is largely a duplication of the main jumphigher.co.uk site google will not index it as it will be seen as a mirror site (something google will not index).
Jump Higher have the benefit of observing the sucess of SEO techniques for 100's of clients and the benefit of this experieince can not be overstated, if we notice a change in ranking criteria we see it accross all of our clients sites and can react accordingly.
We work on behalf of large name clients such as TV Travel Shop, Stenaline holidays, Hover Speed, Irwin Mitchel Solicitors to name but a few, we also work on behalf of numerous SME and one man bands.
We have a team of over 40 staff and would welcome anyone who wants to commission a third party to look at their site to contact us and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
For those who opt to take on the challenge themselves we wish you the best of luck and hope that you have learn't a thing or two from this discussion that may help, we've also put some futher guidance on our site that may help.
Regards
Steve
