Strange error after changing from Switch to Maestro

Some time ago I made a change in the payments methods within Actinic (in 'Business Settings') to change the text in the 'Card Type' drop-down box to read 'Maestro' rather than 'Switch'. After uploading, the sites are behaving correctly and offering 'Maestro' just as they should - but I have subsequently discovered that when an order is downloaded and opened within Actinic the equivalent drop-down within the order still says 'Switch' - so if a customer has chosen Maestro on the website the information is lost when the order is opened.

I've read through all the various threads and couldn't find any similar problem to this. Can anyone think of a way of forcing the 'orders' section within Actinic to synchronise itself with the change that has been successfully made to the website?. Just to clarify, the 'Switch' option now doesn't appear anywhere in Actinic's settings, yet is still appearing when orders are opened

If it helps I am using v6 Developer running several sites, and the same problem has occured on all of them.

    Many thanks for any advice

Never really used V6 in detail, just a light brush over - but could the 'Website' and 'Desktop' payment descriptions have anything to do with this, in your Settings - Payments tab?

May well be a stab in the dark, though

Jeremy are you downloading orders on the same computer? If not you may want to update the snapshot on the second PC.

      Just a thought...

A PSP would resolve this problem.

Thanks for the reply - nice idea but unfortunately everything is done from one PC - I do have five different websites running from one installation of Actinic, but they should all be independant of each other and the settings change was repeated on all of them anyway.

          Grant:
As I said the payments setting within 'Business Settings' is correctly set to Maestro - as far as I can tell 'Switch' doesn't appear anywhere in any settings

Well, I guess that's thinking outside the box. I'd rather get Actinic to work properly though

          Thanks

What if you create Maestro as a new line and the delete Switch?

Downloading orders without a PSP and processing the payments yourself has been outlawed, if that's the right term, since April.

As I said before, Swicth doesn't appear anywhere in the settings. I could try to create 'Maestro 2' and delete 'Maestro'. It may be that playing around with settings like this is the only solution, but I'm kind of reluctant to do it as my sites are very large and doing a site generate / upload after each change takes hours. Maybe it's going to be another weekend in the office.

I read your first post to mean that you are capturing credit card information on your website* and downloading the details. If I am wrong, then ignore all mentions of PSPs and PCI.

If I am right, then afaik, your method has not been allowed since April this year.

Have you done a Web Refresh since the change or just a Publish? It may be worth doing a Help | Troubleshooting | Website Purge and Refresh but waiting until you think it will be relatively quiet on your site becasue it will empty peoples shopping baskets.

Yes we do capture credit card info and download it - but millions of websites do that - what is it that you are referring to that happened in April?

Again that's a good question - we wouldn't have done a complete refresh because it takes days to upload everything again (ok -not days, but a long time). That is worth trying...the odd thing though is that the website is correct, it's the setting on the PC which is wrong.

                        Thanks

Jules is referring to the fact that it is now virtually impossible to comply with PCI DSS requirements without huge expense and hassle without using the PSP to process your payments. This topic has been discussed in length on this forum.
Any sites that you see still downloading card details without a PSP have either made the site PCI-DSS compliant (worthwhile for very large retailers) or are breaking the rules.

Ok - I must admit that I really wasn't aware of any of that (I guess I should read the forum more) - at first sight though I suspect it is not really something I shall be losing much sleep over at this stage.

Barclays have processed our payments for years, and as it happens I had a lengthy chat with a Barclays representative at an exhibition just a few weeks ago - we were specifically talking about what changes in card processing were likely to affect us, and he made no mention of any of this stuff - what he did say was that 'Verified By Visa' was going to become compulsory for online sale before too long, which would mean changes for all online retailers who do their own processing. His view was the process for businesses with merchant accounts would change to be similar to that those who use PSPs, except the customer would transfer to Barclays themselves.

I've never really looked into PSPs for various reasons - mostly because I have never needed to, but also because I have always assumed it must be a more expensive option than having your own merchant account, and because I feel using a PSP makes your website & business look amateurish. Most importantly though the type of stuff we sell means that we need to be able to check the order is complete and all items are in stock before the payment is processed.

Interesting though - thanks for the education
