.save files 0200 ??

Hi,

My server conducts a weekly backup of my site via cpanel.

This has worked fine for months, however today i received an email saying the backup had failed due to errors.

There are a string of errors like this;

/bin/gtar: ./public_html/acatalog/JA17TE10010345.occ: Cannot open: Permission denied
/bin/gtar: ./public_html/acatalog/194Z168Z87Z250A1238671513B16188_00.save: Cannot open: Permission denied
/bin/gtar: ./public_html/acatalog/86Z164Z63Z18A1239488049B22078.session: Cannot open: Permission denied
/bin/gtar: ./public_html/acatalog/81Z83Z208Z66A1233183548B22722_00.save: Cannot open: Permission denied
/bin/gtar: ./public_html/acatalog/86Z130Z74Z245A1233671163B32185_00.save: Cannot open: Permission denied
/bin/gtar: ./public_html/acatalog/87Z147Z75Z107A1232660434B12879_00.save: Cannot open: Permission denied
/bin/gtar: ./public_html/acatalog/79Z78Z239Z179A1239490401B23829.session: Cannot open: Permission denied

I've looked on the server and there are loads of these files in the acatalog folder mostly with the extension .save and all with 0200 permissions.

What are these files... where did they come from ? I dont remember seeing them in the acatalog folder before.. The permission 0200 seems to be stopping the backup..

Shall I just delete them, purge and refresh the site?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

.save files are customers' saved shopping baskets. They usually get purged over time. You can delete the older ones.

.occ files are the payment confirmation files, again usually purged. Don't delete them if there is a matching .ord file.

For backups, you would be better to backup the Site1 folder and snapshots on your PC, as you can rebuild the website from these, but not the other way around.

I would backup both - if you only backup the site1 folder and not the live website you would lose any orders that hadn't downloaded when your disaster happened.

yes, I make snapshot backups every few days. I also use the cpanel backup as I have files on the site that are not part of the actinic shop.

Strange that the cpanel backup never encountered this before as the site has been running for years.
