    index HTML title

    Hi there,
I have added a custom property - my OWNTITLE to all of my sections etc. After checking my site my catalogue doesn't have a page title nor do my view cart sitemap or checkout pages. When looking at the catalogue webpage the message at the top of the screen is "Your Page Title etc - Microsoft Internet Explorer"
I opened index.html from site 1/site html and changed the text Your Page Title etc to Product Catalogue and uploaded but it changed back.
Could someone please tell me how i can change the text on all of the above mentioned pages?.

    Cheers,

    Jacy

having created a customvar for your title you then need to go to the section dialog box, Properties tab, plus and then fill the line

Also replace the contents of <TITLE> in act_primary with CUSTOMVAR:OWNTITLE

      Hi Jo,
Thats the wierd thing, I had already done as you suggested below and all of my section, sub section & brochure pages are fine it's my main catalog page the checkout pages (not too worried about them) and my sitemap page that don't have correct titles.

      Cheers,

Not sure if it helps but "support" gave me some tips on my post that may have some relevance about the part where it gets overwritten:

"You say that Actinic keeps overwriting your changes, which means you are no doubt altering the wrong files. Go into Advanced | Template manager and that is where all of the templates reside, which if you amend those ones, is then used to create the pages of the site, so anything you do within those templates provided by the template manager will not get overwritten.

One thing you need to watch out for is using the compact HTML option within your Design | Options tabs. If you want to use code of the for <!-- etc etc, then using the default setting of compact will strip it all out and thus your includes will not work."

PS: Did you add all your items to your cart manually? There are lots of items there so it must have taken months? Also I noted the Sonata case on your main page, computer equipment is sure expensive down under, obviously the cost of shipping it so far. Currently the street price of that Sonata in Calgary this week is $149.00 CAD, and I guess I shouldn't cry about our 7% GST anymore either!

          Hiya Tom,
Yes unfortunately I've entered everything manually and am currently adding more as we speak!! It's seriously driving me nuts and thats the kids job!! It has taken me months but at least if I do it manually I can get the descriptions the way I want etc.
WHAT!!! you only have 7% GST???? wow I'm moving to Canada
Thanks for pointing out the Sonata it should have been $203. Still expensive compared to you guys though.
are you on Broadband or dial up? If you are on dial up could you tell me please if the site was slow to load?

          Thanks fot the info Tom,
I'll try the advanced template option and see how i go.

          Cheers,

I'm also doing computer equipment, but at 4000 items all I can do is import them from the distributors csv file. Then I have to start on consumer electronics and solar equipment from other distributors. Problem is, there are no categories, and very little for a description, so it will really rely on the client knowing what he wants. That's why I can really appreciate the fact you have descriptions.

Your site loads quite quickly here on adsl, so did the catalog page, there's not many left around here with dial up as adsl is also pretty cheap around here.

It's not likely I could ship one of those cases to AUS for $40.00 so it's still not a bad deal when you look at it that way, and $149.00 is the lowest you'll find it, generally it would be in the $160.00 range.

I've got 6 different wholesalers and some of their sites are an absolute nightmare to navigate. There is no logic to their sites. Some will let you download pricelists and some don't.

I work from 9-5 in my main job and do this after hours (till much later than i should) and on weekends. At my main job alot of people ask me for products that usually i haven't got on the site yet!! So stoopid me says "of course I can get that for you" Then I have to do the reasearch and go to all of my wholesalers' web sites to see whos got what I'm after and pricing etc it just takes forever but it will all be worth it. I'm going to have to add them at some stage anyway.
I look at other sites and see what I don't like about them - one thing being no description of a product so I make sure I add that.

I'm around the 1000 product mark now and plan to get around 3-4000.
I don't envy you the CSV way that would be a nightmare. trying to match up prices etc.

There was one thing i saw on these forums that might be usefull to you, and that was in ACTINIC say you have a section called modems and a sub section calles swann, in your CSV file if you have 10 swann modems you can put modems/swann in the 10 CSV cells (create a cell with the heading of sections) and the 10 products you want in the modems/swann section/sub section will be imported in there. I think you have to map it to ACtinics section. Not sure if you are already aware of this but it might save you some time.

              Cheers,

Thanks for the suggestion jacy, I will most certainly look at giving that a try.

I've been fighting with this problem of getting suppliers large databases into a cart for years. When we used to get databases from Tec Data and Ingram Micro they could combine to up to 300,000 records! So I simply gave up and wrote my own simple cart in Cold Fusion that lacked lots of features. Then we bought Cartweaver but the developer told us to write our own CF queries to import the data, and that prospect did not fill me with much joy so now I'm using Actinic. The problem with the latter is that even for our present database of almost 4000 items, there is no field from which I can make meaningful sections from. If I put them all into one section called "Computers" and you do a search, Actinic hangs if you click on the search result. If I make them into 4000 sections it takes anywhere from 2-14 hours to update the site, or even worse it may simply hang trying to update.

Sounds like we have a lot in common with what we're doing, I'll send you a private message.
                Regards, Tom

Ahhh yes thats interesting I hadn't noticed that,

the same applies to the search page too.

                  I look into it..

You can set a default custom property value for the entire store (which will cover the index page, search etc and brochure) in 'Design | Options | Site Defaults'.

                          Hi Chris,
Yes I'm aware of that and have done so. Actinic is not picking up the titles of the pages mentioned above. (Sitemap,Checkout pages, search page, and the product catalog index page) the main one I'm concerned about is the product catalogue index page.

                          Cheers,

Put NETQUOTEVAR:PAGEHEADER in the <title> tag. That will insert 'Site map', 'Checkout', 'Search' etc. into the titles of the pages.
