    Hi Chris,
Sorry to be so dense but
Put NETQUOTEVAR:PAGEHEADER in the <title> tag. That will insert 'Site map', 'Checkout', 'Search' etc. into the titles of the pages.
Which pages? are you talking about the templates?

    Cheers,

Insert the variable into the <title> tag of your default overall layout template. You can access the default overall layout template by going to 'Design | Options | Layouts' and then clicking 'Edit' next to the field at the top.

currently in the title tags i have <TITLE>CUSTOMVAR:OWNTITLE</TITLE>
and have entered all the names for my sections as custom properties. If i change it to NETQUOTEVAR:PAGEHEADER
won't I lose all my custom headers?

        Cheers,

I don't think you are implementing Chris's original suggestion correctly.

As you say you have a customvat for title defined in ACT_primary.
          thats fine as it is.

what you need to do to get a title on acatalog/index, search page etc, is go to

'Design | Options | Site Defaults'

in the middle of the dialog box is Properties, already prefilled with actcssfontfamily and actstdwidth.

Click on the little plus sign topleft of this box, and then select your customvar for title, then type the title you want for the pages without a title
