    transfering

OK I have built the shop for a client, I now want to transfer the whole site to the clients PC - he will take over completly.

I know I can make a snapshot, does this include all the:
    network
    Encryption key
    Authorization
    username
    password
    etc

I am assuming that I can take the software CD to the clients
and install the software - then import the snapshot.

any advice that stops me looking like an arse at the clients will be gratefully accrpted

Norman made a suggestion in my thread "Use LAN to bypass FTP? " that may have a bit of relevance to your situation as well. Worth a look anyway.

        Jo,

I've been looking at Site1 trying to figure out how I could use it to update the web server via the LAN, but the folder structure seems different. E.G., in Site1 there is no cgi-bin folder, etc. Is it possible?

My reply wasn't targetted at the FTP/LAN issue. it was for the CD.

I was just suggesting if you had a copy of site1 as well as your snapshot you were less likely to look a fool!!

I prefer to update sites using site1 than snapshots.

I simply replace the clients site1 with my copy of site1. There are considerations.............ie orders.

if you are upgrading versions then orders don't matter coz you aren't overwritting the previous install. if you are upgrading an exsisting version (unless you are using developer) then you may well overwrite order history.

BTW the cgi-bin is only held on the remote server, the scripts are generated on upload.

You will have to install catalog on the client site and then do an upload to ensure it is all synchronised

Don't forget that if copying via a CD with Site1 to

              a) Unset the Read-Only permissions that may result in the target system from copying files from a CD. This is easy with XP; just right-click the new Site1, select Properties and clear the Read Only flag and, on Apply, choose to process subdirectories as well.

              b) Copy over the info in Housekeeping / Security via copying and pasting to a textfile. This info is held in the registry and nowhere in Site1.

I hope that you are using the latest version of Actinic. There were a couple of files missing from the snapshots prior to 6.1.3. The omitted files were to do with Shipping as far as I remember and it only caused a problem if you had customised the template or script.

Oh, off to have a look...........
                    right, I have 6.1.2.0.0.0DDVA

I have checked the website for a patch but can only find a 34mb download
                    http://www.actinicdownloads.com/v6/r_busv6.htm

                    is this the correct file?

Yep, that's the one. I didn't find it too much hassle to upgrade from 6.1.2 to 6.1.3. It took me about an hour to carefully review the changes and I didn't have to make any manual adjustments to any templates.

I did have to reapply my Perl script changes but you always have to do that as Actinic does not support user modifications of the scripts.
