    PayPal Surcharging

Is there anyway to set up Actinic so that if PayPal is selected as Payment method it automatically adds a given percentage to the total sale?? At the moment I'm doing it as Tax2 but this prevents me from showing the exc vat and inc vat figures correctly... and customers have to tick a box if paying by regular credit or debit cards to exempt themselves from the surcharge.

I'd rather have it so that it either auto applies the surcharge when payment method is chosen or so that they have to tick a box in checkout or otherwise to add paypal surcharges.
    Cheers!

There is no way to do this at the moment in Actinic. I was going to recommend you do something similar to what you suggested.

I will add this request to the wish list for you.

Cool... look forward to a release where it's implemented, as I'm sure many other PayPal users will!

      Cheers d00d!

Isn't that against the Paypal term and condition though?

I'm sure I read somewhere that one of the conditions of PayPal was that you couldn't charge buyers extra for using their service?

Well it doesn't say it in the User Agreement - https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/we...md=p/gen/ua/ua

Or in the Premier / Business Merchants Agreement either...

Surcharging for any PayPal payment is prohibited outside the United Kingdom. In accordance with our User Agreement, sellers residing in the United Kingdom and listing items for sale on a UK-based website may impose a surcharge, but only under the following conditions:
          - Both the buyer and the seller must reside in the United Kingdom
          - The purchase price must be paid in Pounds Sterling
          - The surcharge imposed by the seller must be no greater than is necessary to recover the receiving fees incurred by the seller
          - The seller must clearly indicate to the buyer before the buyer's submission of a bid, or (in non-auction transactions) before the completion of the purchase, that a surcharge will be incurred and the seller must indicate the amount of the surcharge
There's THIS bit in the help Centre, which clearly says we CAN pass on the surcharge...
          Cheers!

Okay, so if I read that right you can charge another UK customer paying in £, but couldn't charge a USA customer paying in $?

                Folks,

I know that to most of you this will seem particulalrly naive, and perhaps not truly Actinic-related; however ...

I'm looking to use PayPal to process the Actinic-generated credit card sales from my company's online presence. There are 2 reasons for this: to keep initial costs down and because they're a widely known (and hence trusted) brand-name.

When I read "PayPal Surcharges" in the recently posted threads, I realised I'd not come across this term in their on-line literature and perhaps the former of my 2 requirements may not be met(!?).

Can one of you please send me an 'accessible' PayPal URL (I'm not yet a PayPal member) which discusses this or explain more directly what the current charges are for a Paypal transaction?

Finally, how do you guys find PayPal - good choice / bad choice?

                Cheers ...
                Cheers,

This page gives a general overview

                  http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...y-fees-outside

Basically, if you have a personal account you can't accept credit card payments, only money from other pay pal accounts. (plus I think bank transfers)

If you want to accept Credit Card payments you need to upgrade to a Premier or Business Account. You are then charged 2.7% + £0.20 GBP to 3.4% + £0.20 GBP.

The lower rate charge is I think the business account, but to get that account you must have had a premier account first and must do at least (I think) £10,000 worth of business a month.

I'm not an expert with pay pal, so best to go through all their pages.

(edit : I was logged in when I posted that link, so it now shows the US charges ratehr than UK ones)
