    Try doing this:

Can you try sending an email to yourself from Actinic using an 'external' address such as yahoo or gmail. You can do this by opening an order, selecting an email to send and overwriting the customer email address with your own.

This will tell us whether emails are getting out or not.

Tried the thing you told me to do

      Hi Mike,

I reset my smtp server to original one, then I went to the last order in my catalogue which was the one I made to test everything. So the customer email was my email address anyway. Tried to send an email to myself, but didn't work - this was the message that appeared:

Failed to communicate with the SMTP server.

      Possible Cause:
      Network transmission problems.

      Recommendation:
      Retry

      Resolution:
If retry fails, check your SMTP settings
      or contact your ISP.

      The error was:
58318fiona@gofast.co.ukError returned from SMTP server (4: This mail server requires authentication when attempting to send to a non-local e-mail address. Please check your mail client settings or contact your administrator to verify that the domain or address is defined for this server.

Should I try to send an email to myself again, but first change smtp to localhost again?

Yes, it's worth trying. Using 'Localhost' will often work without authentication. Try it and let us know what the reply is.

Do you know what - my business is so tiny that I only get few online purchases per week. I've been so panicked by everything, but actually as long as the worldpay payment process is working ok - and it is, and the actinic shopping cart is working ok - which it is, I can simply look at each order in my actinic catalaogue and do a confirmation/order receipt manually each time to send the customer.

So don't worry - I'm not going to try and fix the email problem anymore.
But thank you guys so much for helping me I really appreciate it!

            Best wishes
            Fiona

              Hi Fiona,

I don't blame you. Sometimes these things can be more hassle than they're worth.

A quick question. When you tried your test order, did you get taken back to the receipt page? If so, then no problems. Just checking as sometimes email server problem can prevent that page from displaying.

I couldn't remember -so i just made another small purchase, and at end of worldpay payment I pressed on the button which we put there to take people to get actinic receipt, and it took me there with no problem - well obviously no problem displaying it, but not actually sending it.

That's fine then. The customer will see the receipt page so get some confirmation of the order straight away. You can then send the email as confirmation from Outlook or whatever you use. (an easy way of doing this to us the email facility in Actinic and to copy/paste it into your email program).

For future reference, the problem you have with email from actinic looks as if the email server on your web host needs email authentication (username and password) to send emails to your customers. This isn't supported in Actinic V6 so you'd either have to upgrade actinic or find another web host (1and1 business works fine with V6).
