    Archiving old orders

    Hi,

I am just about to move Catalog version 7 to a new machine and thought it might be a good time to archive some old orders.

We have taken orders for over 4 years and have some 5000+ orders.

Can anyone suggest the best way to do this as I can't see anything obvious?

    Thanks

We take a full snapshot (or two or three) in March, which we name 2009_DO_NOT_DELETE and store away safely.

Then we purge the current Orders by deleting everything up to 31st December. In this way we've still got the last three months 'live' after archiving.

The fact that your '2009' snapshot contains some early 2010 orders doesn't really matter. But you can only look at pre-2009 by restoring the snapshot, that would need to be done with much care if you only have one computer.

Why not just leave the old machine untouched in a cupboard? That will be your archive and it will be accessable as soon as you power it up.
