    catalog 3.1 and passive ftp

I've been using catalog 3.1 for a few years - it works fine.
I've just moved to a different server and I cant upload - it needs passive ftp!
Is there any way to to fix this short of a full upgrade to catalog 6?

There is a fix on the knowledge base for v4 HERE.

I seem to recall this works for v3 as long as you have v3.5 (you need to substitute 'Catalog4' in the instructions for 'Catalog').

      Passive and v3.5

      Chris,

What is passive FTP? Why is it needed?

Also, where can I download the patch for v3.5?

When using 'normal' ftp it's common for the ftp server (your server) to request a connection back to the client (pc). Most firewalls will block this request unless they've been specifically setup to allow it.

Passive ftp gets around this as the ftp server doesn't have to initiate any connections. It's all driven by by the ftp client on the PC thus avoiding problems with most firewalls.

On recent versions of Actinic passive ftp can be selected with a simple tick in the network settings page.

I can't help with the patch on 3.5. I'm sure Chris or someone else can probably help there.

          Hi there

You can download the full version of 3.5 from the following site: http://support.actinic.com/versions/

When you install this, this will patch up your version of Actinic to 3.5

            Patch failure

After the patch was run and Actinic v3.5 is started, I get the following error:

"The directory C:\Program Files\Actinic Catalog v3\Original\ShipControl does not exist. Please specify a file in an existing directory."

The a dialog box comes up that says there was a problem upgrading ActLocationSelectTemplate.html.

            Any ideas?

              Hi there

Please go to C:\Program Files\Actinic Catalog v3\Original and create a folder called ShipControl.

Once you have done this, simply extract the attached zip file into the ShipControl Folder, then start up Actinic.

              Please try this

              Kind Regards

                Thank you so much.

Why wasn't it there in the first place?

Have no idea, it is there on my installation. Might be an installation issue or simply an upgrade change from 3.01 to 3.5

                    Creating remote directory structure hang

Ok, it's set to passive ftp, but still hangs at Creating remote directory structure.

                    Is that a permissions issue?

                      Hi there

Possibly yes, this could be a permission issue. Please could you check if your /acatalog/ folder is set to 777 and your /cgi-bin/ is set to 755.

                      Kind Regards

                        Not quite sure about permissions

Where are those permissions located. In Actinic itself?

To check permissions you need to FTP to your webserver and check the permissions of the folders/file.

Some hosts allow you to do this, others may not.

Who do you host with and is it a windows or unix server?

                            Permissions

I believe it is a Windows FTP server.

                              Hi there

With regards to a windows server, the webhosting company will need to change permission to the following

Set the /acatalog/ and /cgi-bin/ folder to have a permission of:

                              Modify
                              Read and Execute
                              Read
                              Write
                              Full Control

Once you have set this, Actinic should work.

                              Kind Regards
