Stock levels on hidden products

Hello

Does anyone know if it's possible to display stock level of hidden products in the parent product's on-screen area? I have components set up to select associated hidden products, but availability is often not good. Can I get this info over somehow
(I know that if there is no stock of such a product that the customer gets a ".....product sold out" type message if attempting to order, but it would save an awful lot of time for our customers if the info was more readily presented...
