Digital Download - A solution in Actinic ...

This thread is posted in response to a recent enquiry direct to my website, hope it helps anyone using Actinic and want to go for Digital Download products?

    Actinic V7 Supports Digital Download

All of my products are Digital Files, namely PDF files, all sizes upto 6Mb, (I am not aware Actinic put a limit on file size its merely a constraint on mailboxes so watch out for that).

    I am running Actinic V7 7.0.5.0.0.FJBA.

I also had to purchase the Digital Download bolt –on from Actinic, approx £150 back in 2007.
    (see image attached).

What you get when you install the DD bolt-on is an extra Tab in the Product Details Window.
    (see image attached).

You simply save the File in “Site1”, and reference it by short name in the File Name box, (default Root to Site 1), and click Auto Ship.
(Note Actinic does not like spaces in Files Names, so I used hyphons)

When a customer selects Add to Cart and Checkouts, they get sent the file in this box, once the PSP has returned a “Payment Received OK”.

    PSP Issues
Now there is a few teething issues with who you use as your PSP, i.e. who takes your payments, you must take this on board as it affects the Auto Ship function.

I use HSBC. Who instantly feedback to Actinic that the payment was successful or NOT and processes the shipment or NOT automatically.

I am told Sage Pay also do this, but I am sure there was an issue with Paypal, who do not confirm payment straight away.

If I did not use HSBC it would cause me untold and unnecessary “manual resending”, which is a real pain and cannot be easily actioned afterwards, Actinic does not have a "RESEND" button... but don’t worry too much about this, just trust me, Auto Ship is really efficienct and I fulfill orders without knowing it sometimes.

Any specific help let me know.

    Thanks Simon
That's very useful. Only problem is that Actinic have said that 'they no longer support or sell V7' in response to my question to them about buying the digital download add-on for V7. Their suggestion is to upgrade to V10.

There's no bolt on for the later versions of Actinic - it's included. IIRC it was also included in the v7 Business but only as a bolt-on with v7 Catalog.

Yes, it's included in v7 Business as standard as far as we're aware, though we don't use that feature personally (see attached image for the digital downloads tab).
