Associating Components with Stock Levels

We are using a component followed by an attribute and different options with different prices in Actinic Catalog 6. In the future it is likely that we are going to make use of automatic stock monitoring facilities. This will mean that when people order a product and select an option under the attribute (which is compulsory) how would it be possible for us to associate the Component, attribute and choices with the stock levels. It is important that we can find out about this now so that we do not any experience any problems when making use of such advanced features in the long term.

I would appreciate any help with this.

Actinic does cater for your requirements. What you do is create a product in Actinic for every one of your physical products (so if you had say a t-shirt that was available in large, medium and small you would create three products). You then mark them as hidden. You then create a single product for each logical product (eg. t-shirt), set up the options for it using components, attributes and choices and then go to the component and link the permutations of the product to the appropriate hidden product. You also have the option in here to use the price, name and tax from the hidden product. Then if a customer buys a large T-Shirt, the stock levels on the large T-Shirt product are reduced and if you change the price on the large t-shirt the price changes on the appropriate component.

Stock control problems

we understand about making each product separate ie by size and colour however we have come across a problem...

we have codes already made up for our stock which are 6 figures ie mr0285 this code then has 2 colours and 4 sizes. We aren't sure how we could make a code up for all the sizes and colours using the original mr0285 code and the sizes and colours and it still only be 6 figures to fit into the code field.

we would need it to be something like this mr0285 m blu

the code size and the colour in order for us to know which product it is, the colour and the size.

please can you advise a way of getting around this.

You can have up to 20 characters in the product reference fields, you set how ever many you want in view / business settings / options. So you should be able to use the scheme you outlined.

stock control

sorry to be a pain, we understand about the ability to make the stock reference longer enabling us to use the codes we require, however we have been looking at the actinic help on stock control and don't seem to be able to work out how to arrange the stock on our site. Please can you do a dummy example for us for this item
