    Advanced Taxes

I'd like to set up some tax zones for within New York State (US). For example, New York City tax is 8.75% while Suffolk county tax is 8.25%. I read through the help several times but I am still unclear on how to set this up.

In addition, for this to work, I need to make the user enter the county when the address is in NY State. Since the county is not normally part of the address.

    Thanks in advance!

Go to 'Advanced | Locations...' and in the 'Country' list, select 'United States'. Then, in the 'State/Provinces' list, select 'New York'.

Then, click the 'Create Sub-District' button. Create a new sub-district called 'New York City' with a code of 'NY'.

Click 'OK' and then repeat the process for your other counties.

The new sub-disctricts will be available wherever there is a list of states in Actinic.

      Chris,

Thanks for your reply. I was able to create different tax rates for various counties in New York state, but I am still having problems.
      (1) When checking out, the tax is computed at the default tax rate for New York state (which is needed when there is no county).
      (2) The user can't select a county from a list -- not even in the list of states. i.e., "New York" is available, but not "New York - Albany"; selecting the county from the list of states is counter-intuitive anyway.
      (3) When in New York, the user should be prompted for a county. (Otherwise we care nothing about the county.)

      Thanks in advance.

Please see attached screengrab for how it looks when you create counties. They are added effectively as additional states into the list.

With regards to question (1), in 'Business Settings | Tax' (in 'Advanced' view) you have the ability to create tax zones and set a tax zone as the default tax zone (by selecting the appropriate box). The default tax zone is where Actinic assumes you are from until you say otherwise in the checkout.

With regards to (2), have you added your counties into a tax zone yet?

With regards to (3), that's just the way it works. Sorry.
