It is a quick and easy solution to the main problem being discussed here. Remove the form, delete the mf script, and put an email address on the page so customers can contact you

I suspect alot of peeps use the contact form if they only gave a google or yahoo address. If you click on a mailto: link your computer attempts to open your email client, this is useless if you only use webmail.

As seems to be the consensus, have both a clickable email and a form. If you are using v7 then you can incorporate a php form with capchta.

Email spam through contact us form.

Thanks for the help. I have deleted the orginal MF.pl file and replaced it with one that forwards to another page which I manually created with contact details on.

          Regards

          James

I know I'm bit late coming to this thread, only just had the problem discussed here.
Having followed the advise given by many knowledgable members I have finally, fingers crossed solved the problem.
Perhaps a bit late as I am about to upload v10.

One thing I have on the v7 site, well before all this happened is a Javascript which breaks down the email address and reconstitutes it in the email programme. I will be also using this in v10, just in case. This script can be put into any page, either hard coded or as a header or footer. I show the text as 'Click here to email us' which cannot be read by bots etc.

If it is of interest, please reply to this post and I will post the script.

It can be seen in action by clicking on my link in my signature. You will find the 'Click here to email us' at the bottom of the page.

I have removed the mail form from the site by simply taking it out of the Navigation on the Design Options. However, where do I find the mf.pl to remove that too?

Try deleting (or renaming) Mailform.pl from your Site folder.

I don't know if I am missing something here but if I rename it, it gives an error when I try to update the site saying that mailform.pl is not found

Is it an error that allows you to ignore it? If so, do that, as others - e.g. http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=50487 - say it's possible to delete this file.

It won't let me bypass the errror but I'll try deleting both files as suggested rather than just the one that I did.

Or try replacing MailForm.pl with dummy code:
                        Code:
                        #!NETQUOTEVAR:PERLPATH
                        ###############################
                        # Dummy MailForm.pl - does nothing
                        ###############################

I too have been hacked three times this month, my ISP has blocked my site for 24+ hrs!!!!

I though it was a script (mail.cgi) I'd installed some time ago, but now it looks like it one of the actual actinic perl files - having just found this thread!

I've changed my script number, but do I also need to remove the email settings else where?

Presumably if I remove the content of MailForm.pl file this will prevent email notification of new orders etc?

(and of all the actinic sites I host, it's only the one in this forums footer that has been hacked!!!)

The mailform script is only used for the mail form. The rest of the mail functions work fine without it.
