Hi,

To remedy our previous problem, we're going to experiment with using the weight postage system: the problem being that most of our products have no weight value assigned. Is there a quick way of applying a blanket weight to all products, so the few that are heavier can be changed quickly?

there's a default weight setting under business settings --> shipping and handling.

You can change the order of the shipping classes to be alphabetical rather than in reverse order of cost. There is a solution on the knowledge base to do this HERE. It requires a change to the Perl scripts but nothing too scary.

AND Is it possible to add a customised notice to the shipping selection page ?

You can edit the 'Message' field in 'Business Settings | Shipping and Handling' or else edit the Act_Order01.html template and add your own custom code for the message before NETQUOTEVAR:ADVANCEDSHIP.
