I want to add a personalised item. I've searched on the postings here and can't find anything similar that answers the question.

I need...

the customer to choose the material (choice of two)
then to choose the colour (there is a choice of three for each material and they are different for each material)

then to choose the letters they want. What would be REALLY good if it just came up with a box, they typed in the name they want and actinic sorted out for me how many of each letter but I think that's asking too much so I'll settle for the customer just typing in the quantity of each letter from A to Z.

then to choose from a list of any extra 'letters' they want. These are the 'stars, moons' etc that can frame the name. They can be stars, moons, hearts and they come in a choice of colours (but I can't do all the shapes in all the colours so they can have a 'red heart' but not necessarily a 'blue heart'.


I've been trying a few different ways on Actinic to do this but nothing so far does exactly what I need - but that's probably my lack of knowledge!

Do these choices affect the overall cost, and if so how?

Hi Norman,

It's for a personalised bracelet. The bracelet material regardless of material is the same price. Lets say the bracelet is £8.00

The initials to put on the bracelet are all the same price. So if your name is Norman and the cost £2 each, you would need two 'N's, one 'O', one 'r', one 'm' and one 'A' giving you a total cost of £12.

The stars and moons are also extra but the cost is the same whether it's a blue moon or a white star. Lets say they're £2.20 each and you want one at the beginning of your name and one at the end = £4.40.

Total price for bracelet is £8+£12+£4 = £24.40.

I would like to be able to monitor the numbre of bracelets, individual initials and individual stars etc..

What you are asking for is pretty sophisticated. But not impossible.

In the example you just gave, you would create a bracelet product with a price of £8.00 and you would use the 'Other Info' field in the 'Prompts' tab to ask people for the name they want on it.

Then have an optional component within the product called 'Number of Stars'. Create an attribute within it called 'Number' and then choices within that for 1,2,3,4 etc. Within the 'Permutations' tab of the component, you can then set up how much each choice will cost the customer.

Then do another similar component, but for moons.

Then do a third component for 'number of letters' and ask the customer to select the number of letters they would like for their name. I know this seems an extra step after customers have already entered their name, but this is the only way I know how.

Thanks for the reply. Just to check one thing before i go off and do this. When the customer is selecting the number of letters, they're just selecting the total number of letters, not the number of individual letters?

If this is the case, I could monitor the stock control on all items apart from individual letters?

Have i understood this correctly?

If you do what Chris suggests - which seems the best way to go - then it may be possible (using custom Variant Layouts to hide the final selector for the Number of letters (and to add a tiny bit of javaScript that will count the number of letters in the other Info Field and automatically preset that hidden Number of letters field with the count.

There is just one small problem. You may have to wait 'till 6.1.4 comes out of Beta testing as 6.1.3 doesn't work with custom variant layouts.

There may be further delays in implementing this. I've already found a buglet in the 6.1.4 beta - if you use custom variant layouts with components then the Checkbox (for optional components) or the hidden field (for non-optional) is never generated. I've reported this bug so I hop that it will be fixed in the shpping 6.1.4.

If Chris is listening, It would be nice to know if this will be fixed.

When you create a component you can make it optional or non-optional.

It looks like your first one is optional and the next 2 are not.

You may want to consider making all these components non-optional and using a choice of 0 for the first item when appropriate. This give the customer one less thing to tick.

While testing it may help to name the three choices Num Stars, Num Moons, Num Letters so you can see what appears where.

I have been able to reproduce this, but I doubt that it will be fixed for the 6.1.4 full release. The software has already had a few delays, and the team will probably not want to delay it any more. It will be fixed for v7.
