Is it possible to use one computer to download orders and another computer to be used to send emails and produce invoices, both computers to be used at the same time.

We would like to keep all correspondence via email within Catalog so that we have a record of every detail of every order and be accessed by both computers.

Unfortunately, this configuration is not possible. Currently, orders have to be downloaded and processed on one machine.

I suspect it can be done but you'd have to use Windows XP professional to remotely access the PC with Actinic and the database on it.

I have gone through the Registry and altered (what I thought was) the path to Site 1 on main PC but it keeps opening up the sample Site 1 which is on the second PC.

Is there any way to close down Catalog on the main PC and open it via another PC?

Hi there

There are some key in the registry, which tell Actinic where it is installed, these key would need to change as well. Therefore if you change the site location key, you would need change the other location for installroot.

Problem is that there are some keys in hkey_local_machine, which are to do with uninstalling actinic on the pc as well.

Rather than change the registry, i would recommend use remote access to the PC

Alternatively, you could try Jan's 'One stop automation' to automatically download orders and print packing lists (to the warehouse printer or whatever) and maybe avoid the need for it to be on a second PC.

If you want to tinker with remote access over a LAN to the main system then the open-source VNC would be a simple and free way to try it out.

One Stop Automation might well help - could you say what you are trying to achieve, ie. why do you want to download orders on one machine but not actually process them? We will also have a multiuser version of One Stop Order Processing at some point, this allows you to look at order details and do certain order processing tasks and so might solve your problems for you.

I use the Main PC for everything except for making the tea :-)

What I want is for one of the girls in the office to be able to reply to emails and for her to deal with letting customers know about stock availability from where she sits, instead of walking across the room, move me out of the way to use the Main PC.

That way we are able to keep all customer email responses within Catalog and not spread over Catalog and Outlook Express.

There is nothing more embarassing when a customer rings up and you can not find the emails you sent because they are on different programs or spread across different computers.

It would be nice to have everything contained within Catalog so we could bring up the customers details, what and when ordered, and also all email correspondence.

Hi Andrew,

The next version of One Stop Order Processing might well do this. The big downfall is that it doesn't tell you how many of an item are currently in stock (but I will add this to the wishlist because it fits in nicely with the ideal) but you could show stock quantity online (you would need to upload the catalog after every download or use our stock control mole to do this) then she could just look at the website to check stock quantities.
