Cookies (not choc chip)

We got this email from a customer "I am sorry I can't shop with you but I don't allow cookies under any circumstances - other companies are fine about this."

Now when i tried not allowing cookies Actinic puts an error message on

"This shopping application requires permission to use cookies on your machine, but this has been denied.
This can be for several different reasons, but they are all under your control:

- you may have disallowed cookies altogether in your browser

- you may have the privacy policy in your browser or internet security software/firewall set to a level that stops cookies from being used by this shopping site

Cookies in this shopping application are used to keep track of your cart contents, remember names and addresses when you ask for them to be remembered and, when relevant, keep you logged on.

Cookies are not used in any way that abuses your privacy or security.

Please change your settings to allow cookies either in your browser or firewall. If you choose not to, I'm afraid that we cannot complete your request. "


Is there anyway round this, i know cookies are not bad but its a customer???

Hi Gavin,

I'm afraid there is no way around this, Actinic needs cookies to be enabled, as the cookies generated by Internet explorer communicate with the .session file that is stored on your server

the beauty of Actinic is that it does use cookies and thus avoids sessions IDs in the url that can make a web site invisible to search engines.

maybe you could change the message to say, "we need cookies to maintain your shopping cart data. If you'd rather not allow them, please call us on 012 345 6789 to place your order over the phone". It won't solve the problem but it might save you the business.
