I created a site using a template which used pictures down the left to navigate round the site. I am on my next site and after creating my own template i cant find a way to get picture buttons down the side to navigate.

Select a clean layout to start with, and then add the images down the side of the overall layout template (normally Act_Primary). In the advanced user guide on p42 is a section on 'Inserting a List of Section Images With JavaScript' which will include images for your top-level sections down the side of each page.
