    Ophan section/product bug?

I have a question regarding updates. I have Actinic Developer and a client of mine has Actinic Catalog. I just had then create a snapshot because they want additional design work to be done and when I try to import the snapshot I get the following message.

    FATAL ERRORS
The site was created by a different version of Actinic Ecommerce (6.1.3.1.0.0.DGTA) than this version (6.0.2.1.0.0.CNNA).
Actinic Ecommerce can only import a site created by an identical version.

I understand the version issue, I just don't know if an upgrade will change the current design of the site. I don't want to tell my client to upgrade and then have the upgrader pop up and the client won't know what is going on.

I just want to make sure we are both on the same versions without changing the site, seemless upgrade.

    Thanks,
    Jason

Just to clarify, are you saying that you are on 6.0.2 and your client is on 6.1.3?

In that case, just upgrade your Developer to 6.1.3 before the upgrade and then the snapshot will be imported seamlessly.

If it is the other way round (i.e. you on 6.1.3 and your client is on 6.0.2) then the client will need to upgrade to 6.1.3 before importing the snapshot.

Either way, it is not really a problem.

If you are in the first case (i.e. you need to upgrade) and you have other sites on 6.0.2 within your Developer, then do not worry. We have deliberately not made many changes to the templates since v6 has been released, so the upgrade should be pretty seamless.

Thanks for the information. Your last statement regarding no template changes is what I was looking for.

Also where is the best location to get the latest download and patches. I'm on 6.0.2.1.... and my client is on 6.1.3......

      Thanks again,
      Jason

Ps. Are there any issues with the email reply? I just checked the site to see your reply and I normally receive emails when a post updated. I've checked my user settings and I'm still set to receive an email. Thanks.

Also my client is having issues with copying and saving. Sometimes when they copy a few products from a section into another and modify the detail information (thus saving time from creating from scratch) the changes are not always saved.

They have notified me of this a few times and I have told them to copy less. Not sure if this is a bug or if you have heard of this before. This was once of the reasons I was wondering if there was a patch for there current version 6.1.3. I've seen the 6.1.4 update and just want to make sure that the templates haven't changed.

        Thanks,
        Jason

          Copying

I had what I thought was this problem to start with. If you copy an item from one section to another and then try to view the result in emulation mode, if you only generate the page it does not show the changes. The change is saved but does not display. If you regenerate the whole catalog and negotiate to the page then it does. After doing this once, you only need to regenerate the page.

Could this be what is happening?

These both sound strange. I've been doing lots of copying recently (both between and within sections) and viewing with a simple CTRL-A (page preview) without any problems.

Yes, you should be able to click [Ctrl + A] on any page to preview it with all the latest changes.

It is when you navigate from this page that you run the risk of linking to old out of date pages.

                This isn't the issue.

My client copies a few sections and then updates the sections to fit the new sections they are creating (sections and products).

The issue is sometimes they can see the structure from the within actinic and when they close and come back the sections or products aren't showing up. They update a ton of materials and when they lose the information they have to do it all again. It's a very tedious process because they could be posting 100-200 products and I need a solution. Should I have then upgrade, and if they do I want to make sure it is to the proper update, without messing with their current version.

                Thanks,
                Jason

The one thing that is worth checking is whether the section page filenames are becoming very long with all the copying (e.g. 'copy_of_copy_of_copy_of_copy_of_copy_of_Basic_Products.html')

If this is the case, this has been known to cause issues. Try getting your customer, as their first job, to edit the page filenames.
