    Recovering Sites

We had to reinstall Developer 6.1.2 after a virus effected one of our systems. We have reinstalled Developer but lost all the sites. I managed to save the old install folder from the effected harddrive and tried to ovewright the new install with the old folder but this also has not brought back the old sites. Snapshots for 3 sites are also out of date.

Is there any way of recovering the old sites?

    Try this:-

With a clean install of Developer, updated to the same version as before, create new sites (with demo data) for each of the lost sites. Use the same Site names as before (look to your backed-up Site folder for these names).

If you have Snapshots (even old ones will do) install them as they contains the Encryption Keys (stored in Housekeeping / Security). These are held in the Registry and nowhere in the Site folders.

Once you've done that copy only the backed-up Sites over the fresh ones.

If you don't have a Snapshot or a copy of the Housekeeping / Security data then you'll end up using new security keys and your Site will work but will be unable to download successfully any pending orders.

It may be worth backing-up your registry (regedit / File / Export) before starting any of this as it may be possible to extract the encryption keys from there.
